Wednesday Jonas had a Dermatologist appointment. He's had eczema since he was born but it was mostly on his head when he was a baby (cradle cap) and it has been gone for several months so i haven't' been too worried about it. but lately he's had really dry skin on his legs and i wanted to see if i needed medicated lotion or something to put on it. the prescription was a little saddening. I can't use ANYTHING with dyes or perfumes in it. This includes but is not limited to, bubble bath, soap, lotion, laundry detergent and fabric softener. so i had a reverse trick or treat with some friends and my many bottles of lotion and soap and bubble bath that i recieved as gifts at baby showers. (i didn't want to re-gift b/c some of the bottles were 1/2 used) Also, we have to rub him up and down with Aquaphor (sort of like vaseline) twice a day and in the harsh cold winter 3 times a day. The doctor said for most people, if they get it when they're a baby, they'll probably have problems with it till they are in puberty (13-14 years old) then it may never bother him again. So we just have to make some good habits of using the aquaphor and hopefully he wont' have any serious breakouts (it can get pretty bad This picture is of a mild break-out, Jonas had bumps like this but it wasn't red yet. ) (By the way, eczema is genetic, it's not contagious in any way, it is not a rash)

Jonas has been in a really bad mood this past week and he's had some MAJOR BAD blow-out diapers and has been vomiting about once a day this week and had a VERY low grade fever. I knew he was cutting 2-3 teeth but i wanted to make sure that it wasnt' a virus or anything more serious. we went to the pediatrition Yesterday and she looked in his ears, listened to his chest, looked in his nose. all of those were fine. she looked in his mouth and decided the problem was there...he's cutting not just 2-3 teeth, but 5-6!!! UGH, my poor baby. I guess when he wants to do something, he does it right, all at once! What's the point in dragging it out over a long period of time? just get the whole mouthful all at once! Anyway, the Dr. told us to try a few diferent things. One was to give him a dill pickle and just let him chew on it. another was to put a washcloth in the freezer and give it to him. and the 3rd thing she told us to try was something called "teething tablets" that you can buy over the counter at wal-mart. Jonathan and i went to Wal-Mart and looked at the package to see what all was in them and what they did. one ingredient jumped out at me. It's called Belladonna. I couldn't remember anything about the drug at the store, but i sort of thought it wasn't a good drug. we came home and i looked it up on Wikipedia and found out it's sometimes used as a recreational drug and can produce vivid hallucinations. I remembered that i heard of it in a movie Practical Magic with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock. When Nicole Kidman uses it to sedate her boyfriend and an accidental overdose kills him! Also, i found out that in The Nightmare Before Christmas Sally uses it several times to get away from her master. Not to worry though, there's a VERY small amount of the drug in Jonas' medicine. and it says it's for the inflamation and redness in his gums.

My little man has had excema ever since he was born, I think. When we went to the doctor she actually prescibed us something that was known to cause cancer! Hello?! Why do they even sell that stuff? Also, you can try to weed out some things that cause it to flare up worse rather than changing out all of your detergents, soaps and lotions. Like our laundry detergent doesn't bother him at all, but his old soap really did. We switched to California Baby soap, which you can get at Target (it's a little bit expensive though), it did help it notget so red and nasty looking though. Also, a friend of mine has a child with it and she said that the Winnie the Pooh or Disney or something like that Excema lotion works pretty good too. Oh yeah, the excema also caused him to have spots where he was exposed to the sun. I don't know why it does that, but he has little white patches on his arms legs and back wherehe cannot get tan because that is where the excema shows up the most. So my son is polka dotted. Hmm, maybe I should have just emailed you.
